Julia Williams

December 15, 1933 - June 15, 2022

Julia DuBose Williams of Hendersonville, NC, passed away on June 15, 2022, at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville. She was 88 years old. Julia was born on December 15, 1933, in Asheville, NC, the daughter of M. John and Delia (Steele) DuBose. She grew up in the Avery Creek area. She was a graduate of Valley Springs High School in Skyland, NC, and received her Bachelor’s degree in home economics from Appalachian State Teachers College in Boone, NC. Julia was married for a time to Wallace “Cotton” Williams, deceased, of Candler, NC, and taught school in Falls Church, VA, before returning to WNC to do social work with the Hendersonville Department of Social Services. She was a social services discharge case worker at Pardee Hospital before retiring. Julia adopted many dogs over her lifetime, all of which she loved dearly. She liked to go riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway, visit Cades Cove in the Smokies, and grow daylilies and roses in her Hendersonville garden. She is survived by her brother Barron M. DuBose of Avery Creek; her sister Miriam DuBose Lu (Kenneth Lu) of Chandler, AZ; her sister-in-law Sue Ann J. DuBose of Hilton Head, SC; and nieces, nephews and caring friends. In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her sister, Dr. Joan DuBose Schelly of Arlington, TX; her brother-in-law, Dr. Zoltan Schelly of Arlington, TX; and her brother, Dr. David S. DuBose of Old Fort and Marion, NC. Julia was a lifelong member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Fletcher, NC, and volunteered in the church food pantry for a number of years. She will be laid to rest in the cemetery at Calvary, near her parents, sister and brother-in-law, and brother. A remembrance memorial to celebrate Julia’s life will take place at a later date. Donations in remembrance of Julia can be made to the Blue Ridge Humane Society or the animal shelter of your choice. Julia, with the help of her friend Margaret Johnston of Tryon, NC, rescued many dogs and cats over the years, giving them a caring home.
