Pamela Murphy Grode

Pamela Murphy Grode, 49, of Hendersonville died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Pardee Hospital. Pam was born to Roberta “Bertie” Murphy and Charles “Chuck” Murphy in Riverside, NJ, a beautiful dark-haired, brown-eyed baby girl with grandparents and many aunts and uncles on both sides of the family. We soon learned that Pam was blind in one eye but she never let that hold her back. She was a good athlete that especially loved soccer and cheerleading. Pam was as extroverted and friendly as they come. All who knew her enjoyed Pam’s great sense of humor and playfulness. She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia where she still has many friends and family; although she spent the last few years of her life in the Hendersonville, NC area near her mother. When Pam was a young woman she acquired a new step-mother, Laura Murphy, and a new step-father, David Woods, and eventually a half-brother, Charlie. She loved all of her family very much and delighted especially in the women circle of Gram Murphy and Aunts Vanessa and Corinne who supported her throughout her life. Pam worked in various hospitality jobs in the restaurant industry, beauty salons and animal care facilities. She loved all animals, especially dogs. She was preceded in death by her beloved black labs, Parker and Ranger. She was always willing to pet sit in order to surround herself with the affection of animals. Pam was a great cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and nurturing just about anything and anyone. She was often the life of the party, the center of attention, and had the biggest heart in the room. Pam faced a lot of physical and emotional set-backs in her life, but came through everything with resilience and determination. She died with two artificial hips, a titanium shoulder and fused vertebrae. These surgeries caused a lot of pain that she usually met with good humor and a lot of patience. But Pam’s body finally gave out, too soon for all who loved her. She is in peace now, probably with her sweet animals and comforted by the loving God she prayed to so often. She will be missed by her friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please contribute generously to Hendersonville Habitat for Humanity. Pam had a heart for anyone that needed help.
