September 10, 1945 - August 25, 2021
Sandra Sue Pickering Brown went to heaven to be with her beloved Savior on August 25th, 2021, from complications from Covid-19. She would have been 76 on September 10th, 2021. Sandy was a beloved mother, wife, counselor, mentor, and friend to many. Sandy leaves behind her best friend of over 70 years and husband of 54 years, Bill Brown of Laurel Park, NC. She was a wonderful mother to Penny (Tom), Christina (Paul), Elizabeth, Joan (Kevin), William (Nicole), and a grandmother to Hillary (Jeremy), Chris, John, Kylee, Lauren, Autumn, Aria, Atlas, Atreyu, Callaghan, Adeline, Henry, and great-grand-children Jeremy and Chloe and "Ma Brown" to many more. Sandy is survived by her brother Warney Pickering of Janesville, WI, and was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth in 1989, her brother Gene Pickering, and her parents Ena Munro and Gene Pickering. Sandy's most important relationship was with Jesus. She wrote, "I asked Jesus into my life to save me from my sins at age six on August 15th, 1952, at a Backyard Bible Club. I was filled with the Holy Spirit on January 1st, 1975, after attending a New Year's Eve party at The Barn, a Charismatic Presbyterian church in Simsbury, Connecticut. I believe God's Word to be true. I will continue to share this as a teacher, exhorter, seer, and prayer warrior." Sandy was born in Waukesha, WI. She graduated from Waukesha High School and attended Maryville College, Whitewater State College, and Prospect Hall Secretarial School. Sandy's various jobs included Admissions counselor for the University of Bridgeport, Executive Assistant at the PTL Television Network, and home school teacher for four of her children through "The Brown Academy." She ministered to many people through her volunteer work, the School of Prophets correspondence course she developed, and her books and writings. Sandy was a volunteer for Girl Scouts (25 years), 4-H (8 years), Child Evangelism Fellowship, and Aglow International. She was active with The Shepherds Ministerial Association in Charlotte, NC, Henderson County Ministerial Association, and local and state Republican organizations. Sandy loved to travel to many wonderful and exciting places with her husband and on mission trips to Mexico, India, Israel, and the Apache Indian Reservation. Sandy was an active prayer warrior with Intercessors of America and Concerned Women of America for America, Israel, and India. She also prayed for and corresponded with over 100 conservative and Christian organizations. Sandy was happiest when she was helping others. She ministered to many people through her God-given counseling wisdom, her unmatched listening skills, her "Time-Line" healing tool, and through her various writings, including "Grandma's Goop" and "Spiritual Warfare: The False J.u.d.a.h" (Available on Amazon). In "Bells and Whistles," she recounted stories from her youth growing up in Wisconsin. Sandy's plays include "Silver and Gold" about the Apostle Peter and the lame man, "It's Hot In the Furnace," and "Anna," a modern play and dance about a homeless woman that was performed at Joy Outreach Fellowship. Sandy Brown loved to paint, draw, color, and create art with mixed mediums, including acrylics, fabrics, and things that just seemed fun. She enjoyed going out to Waffle House, Cracker Barrel, and Tooley's Restaurant in Laurel Park, North Carolina, playing Scrabble with her friend Jane, finishing a puzzle at Christmas, praying, listening, church-hopping, and encouraging others. Her life verse was, "For God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7 Sandy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A celebration of Sandy's life will be at 2 pm on Saturday, September 25th, 2021, at The River Church, 3180 Hendersonville Hwy, Pisgah Forest NC 28768. A reception will be held at the church following the service.
