Mary Katherine Toscano Costanzo

Mary Katherine Toscano Costanzo born in the Bronx, NYC with a rich Italian heritage. Her parents were kind, generous, loving, and giving to the community. Mary was born to Alfred Toscano, her father, and her mother, Katherine DiAmico on October 2, 1925. She grew up in the Bronx, then Manhattan then Queens, NY. She married, Louis Joseph Costanzo and lived in Corona, Queens, NY. She worked in the Garment Center of NYC and she was a fabulous cook, a great seamstress, had a great sense of humor, and was full of hospitality. Mary was a woman of faith and trusted Jesus with her life. She enjoyed traveling to her beloved Italy to see LA Familia and traveling across the USA with her friends, Essie & Ted Owin. She had many lifelong friendships, her close friends, Ann and Mary, and Josephine are still alive too. Then Mary and Louis moved to Hudson, FL, and lived there. Louis went to be with the Lord in 1991 and for over three decades Mary loved every minute of living in Florida. She moved here to Asheville, N.C., to live with her daughter, Theresa, and son-in-law, Howard. Her treatment of her son-in-law was as a “mother” and their relationship remained strong to the very end. She was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. Mary shared her faith in simple and loving ways. She had an active, enjoyable life and she loved to walk every day and was named “walking Mary” by the actor, Richard McKenzie in our neighborhood. She was loving, and forgiving, had a heart of a servant, and always thought of others first. She was and is a remarkable woman. Left to treasure and cherish her memory is her son, Alfred Louis Costanzo, wife, Melanie, and grandson, Vincent of Albuquerque, NM. Her daughter, Theresa Costanzo Peace, husband, Howard Michael Peace of Asheville, NC, and grandson, Evan Ross Peace, wife, Litasha and great-grandsons, Ethan Howard and Lucas Alexander Peace, of Simpsonville, SC. Her sister, Amelia Toscano Tuthill, and several nieces and nephews. From Alfred L. Costanzo, a beloved son: “It’s difficult to write parting words about my mother. She cared for me for 75 years, comforted me when I was down, cared for me when I was sick, and helped me with her advice, through my formative years, and when I strayed from the path, she provided me with the guidance to help see The Light. She is with The Father, in comfort, free of pain. Thank you Mom for all you did to help me be the man I am today. I hope to pass your wisdom to my children.
